In January of 2016, I approached the non-profit I work for and asked if I could attempt to throw a benefit show that would raise money for the Rockwood Boys & Girls Club. I began a grass roots effort of emailing, cold calling and networking with the Portland music community. I received a lot of interest and positive feedback. In May of 2016, my organization BGCP and I were thrilled to partner with Next Northwest and Sub Rosa Curation. The hard work paid off and I was glad to be working with a talented team of people that believed in the project and could help bring it to life. Together, we threw a benefit concert called Rock for Rockwood with the likes of M.Ward, The Thermals, The Helio Sequence and Emily Wells. This worthy cause raised funds and awareness for a much needed safe space for youth in the Rockwood community. And from this, Music For Mental Health was born. Check out the amazing write up on the show by Barack Goodman.
